New Delhi: Speedster Shoaib Akhtar is hoping to play for Surrey and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is backing him in his bid to play county cricket.
“We have cleared Shoaib to play county cricket and have given him a no jobjection certificate,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi has been quoted as saying by Pakistan’s ‘The News’ newspaper.
“Shoaib has been out of competitive cricket for quite some time and needs to regain his match fitness,” said Naghmi. “We believe a short county stint might help him in doing that.”
Shoaib is hoping to make a return to international cricket after the PCB reduced a five-year ban on disciplinary charges reduced to a fine.
Surrey are hoping to play the speedster for next week’s crunch match against Kent at Canterbury.
