Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar from playing in the national Twenty20 tournament.

Akhtar would violate his central contract if he plays in the domestic event despite medial advice that he needs to rest for 10 to 12 days to recover from a skin infection, a PCB official said.

"The board has sent us the medical report and copy of the central contract which states a player playing against medical advice can be fined," The Nation quoted the president of the Islamabad cricket association, as saying.

The 33 year-old controversial fast bowler was axed from the ICC World Twenty20 squad after a medical panel of the board examined him for a skin infection, and concluded that he was suffering from genital viral warts, and he needed to be rested for 10 to 12 days before another re-examination in first week of June.

However, sources said Akhtar was eager to lead the Islamabad Leopards in the National Twenty20 Championship, and was angry with the board’s decision of banning him from participating in the event.
