Adelaide: Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting scored fine half-centuries on the second day of the second Test match here to put Australia in control against New Zealand on Saturday.
At stumps the hosts were comfortably placed at 241-3, only 29 runs behind New Zealand's first innings total of 270.
And although Australia dominated the day but New Zealand bowlers managed to restrict the run flow.
Michael Hussey remained unbeaten on 69 from 178 deliveries after Ponting shone with a superb 79 to lift the team after both openers fell before lunch.
Later Michael Clarke continued from where his captain left and at the close of the day's play, was not out on 43. He along with Hussey also put on an unbroken 86-run stand.
But the day belonged to Ponting and Hussey, who shared a 106-run third-wicket stand as the duo battled it out in the middle on a placid pitch to steady Australia's innings.
