Mumbai: Legendary off-spinner Erapalli Prasanna slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for arranging tours to Sri Lanka (three-match Test series and five One-Dayers) during the monsoon season.
"It is a big mistake by the Indian board to agree to tour Sri Lanka during this time of the year and expect their players to bring glory to the country. Neither the bowlers nor the batsmen can perform to their capability when just 22 overs are bowled on the opening day of a Test match," Prasanna told Cricketnext on Thursday.
"See, this is not the first time the board has agreed to tour Sri Lanka. If I am not mistaken, seven years ago Sri Lanka were lucky to win the Test series 2-1 even after several rain-interruptions.
"Before that, under Mohammad Azhuruddin’s captaincy, several matches were affected by rains and during Jagmohan Dalmiya’s tenure as the board’s chief too a couple of One-Day matches have been washed out. So I don’t understand the logic of touring Lanka during this time of the year," he added.
"It is a proven fact that gripping the ball becomes difficult under these conditions. It is not the ideal condition for the bowlers to be bowling and it will be a big relief if the matches are completed uninterrupted," he said.
