New Delhi: Abhimanyu Mithun's hat-trick on debut and his match haul of 11 wickets powered Karnataka to open their Ranji Trophy campaign with a massive 185-run victory over hosts Uttar Pradesh in their Group B match on Friday.

Chasing 438 for an improbable win, UP could only manage 252 before being shot out in 66.2 overs with Mithun, who had claimed six for 86 in the first innings, scalping five for 95 on his first-class debut.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (63) and captain Mohammad Kaif (54) came up with gritty half-centuries before Mithun ran through the middle and lower order to earn Karnataka five valuable points.

Delhi draw against Baroda, get three points

Delhi failed to force a win after asking Baroda to follow on and had to be content with three points on the basis of their first innings lead in their Group B tie.
