London: Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who was to join Surrey in their last ditch effort to prevent relegation, was refused entry into England after it was learnt that he did not have a valid UK visa.

According to a Daily Mirror report, the fast bowler had a work permit, but his visa wasn’t valid.

"We did everything we could to get him here, but it hasn't worked out. We thought he'd make an impact as he wanted to get his career up and running again," Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon said.
