This was the first day-night match at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Kotla thus became the 14th Indian ground to host a day-night ODI. Interestingly VCA Stadium, Nagpur became the 13th day-night Indian ground in the last match.

Moises Henriques and Graham Manou were making their ODI debut. They became 179th and 180th players to represent Australia in shorter version of the game.

Umpire Sanjay Hazare was making his ODI debut as onfield umpire. He became 87th Indian to stand as onfield umpire in a one-day international.

Ricky Ponting opened the innings for only second time in his ODI career. The only other such instance for him was against Zimbabwe at Harare in 1999. Ponting made an unbeaten 87 on that occasions.

Dhoni's stumping of Watson (off Yuvraj) was his 45th in an ODI – most for India. He went past Nayan Mongia's tally of 44 stumpings. Incidentally Dhoni has also effected three stumpings for Asia XI, which takes his career tally of stumpings to 48.

Michael Hussey completed his 1,000 runs in ODIs in the year 2009. He became third batsman to do so after fellow teammate Ricky Ponting and Zimbabwean Hamilton Masakadza.

Hussey made his third consecutive fifty in the series. He had made 73 and 53 at Vadodara and Nagpur respectively.

Hussey's 81* was his highest score against India, obliterating the 73 he made at Vadodara on 25-10-2009.

Australia's total of 229-5 was their lowest in five matches at Feroz Shah Kotla.

The 148-run partnership between Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni is the highest fourth wicket partnership at this venue, obliterating the 111-run partnership between Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Kaif against England in 2002.

The above partnership is also India's highest for the fourth wicket against Australia on Indian soil, obliterating the 119-run partnership between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni at Vadodara in the first match of the series.

Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni have now been involved in nine century partnerships. The break-up: one for third wicket, three for fourth wicket, three for fifth wicket and two for sixth wicket. India have won on all the nine occasions!

MS Dhoni has now remained unbeaten on 22 occasions in a successful chase. Only Mohammad Azharuddin (30) and Sachin Tendulkar (24) are ahead of him for India.

Yuvraj Singh won his 20th Man of the Match award – his third against Australia.
