Bangladesh suffered their eighth consecutive loss in Twenty20 Internationals- the longest sequence of defeat for any side in this format of game. They were at level with New Zealand with 7 consecutive defeats.

Bangladesh have now lost 9 games under Mohammad Ashraful, who has now equalled Ricky Ponting’s record of losing most matches as captain. But while Ponting has also won 7 games, Ashraful has only two wins against his name.

Mashrafe Mortaza, with his unbeaten 33, equalled the highest score by any batsman at number 9 in Twenty20 Internationals. India’s Irfan Pathan had also made the identical score against Sri Lanka at Colombo earlier this year.

Niall O’Brien’s 40 is the highest score by any Ireland batsman in Twenty20 internationals, obliterating Andre Botha’s 38 against Scotland at Belfast in 2008 (later Kevin O’Brien made the second highest score for Ireland with an unbeaten 39).

Niall O’Brien became first Ireland batsman to hit more than one six in a T20 international match. Before this match, only three sixes were hit for Ireland in four matches – one each by Gary Wilson, Andre Botha and Kevin O’Brien.

The win was Ireland’s fourth win in five matches. Statistically speaking, their winning percentage of 80.00 is the best among all the teams!
