MS Dhoni has continued his remarkable run in Test cricket. India have not lost a single Test under Dhoni ever since he took the reins in 2008. Of all captains in Test cricket only nine have enjoyed unbeaten run in the career having led their respective sides in five or more matches. Dhoni is the only Indian to make it to this elite list.
Interestingly India's win at Kanpur also eliminated Kumar Sangakkara from this elite list. In the six matches prior to the Kanpur Test, Sangakkara had won four and drawn two. But Dhoni's side promptly put a full-stop to his effort.
Thilan Samaraweera's run-tally in Test matches in 2009 reads as 1,233 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 82.20. Only Sanath Jayasuriya (1,271 runs in 1997) and Kumar Sangakkara (1,242 runs in 2006) have scored more runs in a calendar year for Sri Lanka. Samaraweera has now a great chance to surpass both of them in the next Test.
S Sreesanth won his second Man of the Match award. His only other award was against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006-07.
