Melbourne: Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga has joined Tasmania for next season's Twenty20 Big Bash, Australia's domestic competition.
"The prestige of the Twenty20 Big Bash will be further enhanced by Malinga's signing and we are confident he will provide a tremendous boost to the Tasmanian Tigers' Big Bash campaign in 2009-10," club chairman Tony Harrison said.
"Our home matches in the KFC Big Bash competition will be held around the New Year holiday period and will present an opportunity for Tasmanian cricket enthusiasts to catch a glimpse of a world-class Twenty20 cricketer," he added.
The paperwork, however, is not complete yet and Harrison said Malinga's contract is subject to his availability due to Sri Lanka's Bangladesh tour for an ODI series, which is under the cloud.
Accordingly, Malinga is expected to arrive in Hobart in December, Harrison said.
Earlier, Western Australia had signed Chris Gayle and Victoria roped in Dwayne Bravo for the Twenty20 Big Bash.
