New Delhi: There were no surprises in the Indian squad for the World Cup, which was announced at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

The national selectors retained the same 15 who played in the last One-Day International against Sri Lanka in Rajkot on Sunday.

The team was announced at a press conference addressed by chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar, captain Rahul Dravid and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah.

Opener Virender Sehwag and all-rounder Irfan Pathan were included in the team, their lack of form being ignored ahead of the mega event in the Caribbean islands from March 13 while Sachin Tendulkar has been retained as the vice-captain.

The selectors decided to go with five seamers at the expense of an extra spinner. Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, S. Sreesanth and Munaf Patel were named in the squad along with Pathan, with Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh the only two specialist slow bowlers.

Ramesh Powar, who was a strong contender with his off-spin bowling and handy batting, could not make it to the squad and batsman Suresh Raina too failed to make it despite being part of recent One-Day outfits and known to be a favourite of coach Greg Chappell.

Opener Robin Uthappa's superb form helped him make it ahead of left-hander Gautam Gambhir. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly has recently gone back to his opening position while Sehwag is another option for the opening slot.

Dravid brushed aside injury worries in the side with Yuvraj Singh, Pathan, Patel, Agarkar and Ganguly all having to undergo tests over the past few weeks.

"The kind of schedule we have, injuries are part and parcel of cricket. We will not be different from any other international team. All teams including Pakistan have (injury) issues."

The Indian skipper also said the team would be concentrating on fielding.
