Mumbai: Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, paying rich tributes to Sir Don Bradman on his birth centenary, said he never tried to copy the greatest ever batsman’s batting style.
"I have never copied Bradman’s batting style. I have stuck to my own style. I have never tried to copy players and have done only whatever my coach (Ramakant Achrekar) and brother (Ajit Tendulkar) asked me to do. I have always focused on what I needed to do," Tendulkar has been quoted as saying in The Times of India on Wednesday.
"All talks about a similarity between him and me and our styles of play came from him. Obviously that was a great compliment made bigger because it came from him. No doubt, that was by far the best compliment I have ever got," he added.
Speaking about his experience of last year’s visit to the Bradman Museum, which was unveiled on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Tendulkar said, "the visit to the museum was fabulous. The icing on the cake was getting to hold Bradman’s bat. It felt terrific. It was a very different experience, completely unique. After all, how many people have actually held a bat with which Bradman played."
In fact Bradman had told his wife that he found the ‘little bonzer’ (referring to Tendulkar)batted just like him and narrated the same when he invited Tendulkar to his Adelaide home in 1998.
Tendulkar is among the 12 players to be named in the international cricket Hall of Fame captained by Bradman.
