Top performer: Virender Sehwag

It was time for the Indians to deliver after a shocker in Colombo. And they did just that, exacting revenge with a huge 170-run victory in the second Test of the three-match series at Galle. And although team effort resonates throughout the display, it was one man who got India's nerves settled into the game right at the onset.

Virender Sehwag hammered an unbeaten 201 in the first innings, off just 231 balls, marking the centrepiece of a superb fightback after having hit rock bottom only a week earlier. India managed just 329 runs in the first innings, out of which 201 belonged to Sehwag - his 15th Test century - which told of the immense contribution from the bat of the Nawab of Najafgarh.

Sehwag got back in the act in the second innings as he scored a quick-fire half-century to keep the Indians on track of a showdown as the Test reached its conclusion. The bowlers did the rest in the second innings as India cantered to a victory as both teams proceed to Colombo for the decided from August 8.
