Lahore: The three-member Anti-Doping Tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will meet on Friday to hear the doping case against pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

According to PCB sources, the drug-tainted players are expected to appear before the tribunal along with their lawyers or they might send their statement in writing.

This is the first time that the full tribunal -- Shahid Hamid, Intikhab Alam and Dr Waqar Ahmed -- would meet at the Gaddafi Stadium. In the previous meeting on Saturday, Dr Ahmed was not present and the hearing could not take place despite both the players' presence.

''Both the cricketers have been provided with copies of their dope test and the tribunal would study their submission tomorrow,'' a PCB official said.

Both the players were withdrawn from the Champions Trophy after their dope test results were found positive in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Ahmed, a key member of the tribunal and PCB's director of Sports Medicine, however, believes that the players may have inadvertently consumed nandrolone and if that's the case, PCB might go soft with them.

He also argued that the players might have consumed the drug in form of health supplements.

''...There are many supplements used by athletes all over the world to restore energy and some times these supplements carry banned substances that athletes don't know about.

"Moreover, this substance is also produced within the bodies itself, so the PCB Tribunal has to be convinced if Shoaib and Asif used the drugs by accident to forgive them,'' he told in a recent interview to Voice of America.
