Durban: India's star batsman Yuvraj Singh is as pugnacious as they come.
Suffering from a tendinitis of the left elbow, Yuvraj overcame the pain barrier to set up a superb win over Australia in the Twenty20 World Championship semifinals at Kingsmead here on Saturday.
"Victory takes away all the pain," Yuvraj said rather dramatically after his 30-ball 70 enabled India to notch up a sweet victory over three-time ODI
world champions Australia and set up a final with arch rivals Pakistan.
Yuvraj, who had struck six sixes off a Stuart Broad over in a Super Eights match against England, had to miss the subsequent tie against South Africa, which too India won to top the group and ensure a semifinal at their favourite venue here.
Yuvraj, who was welcomed to the middle with a big round of applause, did not disappoint the crowds as he got off the mark with a pulled six to Stuart Clark over the long-leg fence.
"Yes, I was going through pain but it was important for me to play the match," said Yuvraj, who smashed five sixes and five fours much to the delight of flag-waving supporters of the Indian team.
"I think it is important to get good starts in this format of the game too. There is little time to recover, so it is best to ensure a decent start," said the left-hander who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket.
