New Delhi: Legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has said that one-day cricket was "past its sell-by date" and needed to be scrapped.

Writing in his weekly column in the London Times, Warne has come up with a five-point formula to improve the general health of the game.

He wrote that one-day international cricket should be abolished totally and only Tests and T20 internationals should be played, with a T20 World Cup thrown in every two years.

Warne also suggested the introduction of a two-tier World Test Championship to sustain public interest in Test cricket.

He also said that there is a need for a permanent window for the Indian Premier League. According to him, a fixed slot in the ICC Future Tours Programme will keep both the players and the audiences happy.

The leggie insisted that switch-hitting should be banned totally and the leg before ruling must be tweaked.

He also prescribed the need for umpires wages to be raised. Warne, in fact, mentioned Simon Taufel and Asad Rauf as few of the best in the business who could be role models.

He also had reservations about use of technology for umpires and said it would be better not to use them unless the technology was 100 per cent foolproof.
