New Delhi: The 2007 World Cup final promises to be an engrossing affair with the Asian flair on one side and the Australian method on the other.

Three-time World Cup winners Australia take on 1996 champions Sri Lanka in the final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, the teams having contrasting styles and records in One-Day Internationals.

It is only apt that the two teams face each other for the most coveted trophy in cricket. While Australia have remained unbeaten in the present edition, Sri Lanka have lost just two matches - to Australia and South Africa.

Australia have been the dominant force in world cricket for nearly a decade and their triumphs in the last two World Cups make them the firm favourites to achieve what no other team have been able to do till now - a hat-trick of World Cup triumphs.

The Aussies have the best record in the World Cup, something comparable to Brazil's domination in the Football World Cup.

Australia were finalists in the first World Cup in 1975, winners in 1987, losing finalists again in 1996 when Sri Lanka became the first team to win the World Cup batting second, and then began their Golden Era in One-Dayers.

They won the 1999 tournament losing just one match against Pakistan and were involved in a tie against South Africa in the semis but advanced to the final courtesy their win over the same opponents in the Super Six stage.
