Mumbai: CNN-IBN spoke to India's explosive opening pair, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, about India's prospects of becoming the number one team in Tests in an exclusive interview.
Gautam Gambhir: When you get four hundreds on a trot and seven in the last nine Test matches, it's like a dream come true. It just can't happen. It seems like a dream come true. In fact, I never dreamed of it. But I am very happy with the way it's been happening and hopefully, it will continue in the same way.
CNN-IBN: You two have played a huge role in the way the team has been shaping up. India will become the number one Test playing nation if you win the Mumbai Test. How big is this dream of yours?
Virender Sehwag: When we started this journey in 2008 or maybe in New Zealand, we talked about the number one position. We said whenever we play a Test match, we will try to win it. If we do that then we will get closer to the number one spot. That's what we have been trying and working hard towards it and hopefully, we will beat Sri Lanka in Mumbai and we will get that place because we deserve that and we have worked hard for it.
CNN-IBN: When Sehwag is batting, we all are on the edge of our seats. But when he tries to play a shot and misses, do you walk up to him and talk to him?
Gautam Gambhir: The kind of player he is, you want to give him the freedom and his record speaks for itself. And personally if you ask me, I think that's what sets the team a great platform because the way he bats, no other player can do that. You don't want to see players like me who are going to bat the whole day.
Virender Sehwag: I try to set up the game for the players who are coming in to bat after me. But it's important for Indian cricket that we need players like Gautam and Rahul (Dravid) who can bat for 10 hours.
