New Delhi: CNN-IBN spoke exclusively to chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth ahead of the series against West Indies on a range of issues, including the recent loss at the World T20 and the injury concerns to senior players.

On India's chances in West Indies

I'm confident that this team will do well in the upcoming one-day series against the West Indies. Let's not forget that Twenty20 was a different ball game from the 50-over game. And I'm very confident that our boys will do very well in West Indies.

On debutants and comeback men

It's a great opportunity for the youngsters to prove themselves. As you know, people like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Sachin Tendulkar have all been given a rest, and Suresh Raina was unfortunately injured. So it's a great chance for the newcomers to establish themselves, and even for the guys making a comeback.

On India's bench strength

Nobody can replace a player like Sachin Tendulkar or Virender Sehwag. They would be missed, but we have to keep going and find out youngsters. They won't be replacing those great names, but it's an opportunity for them. It's a good test to find the bench strength of Indian cricket.

On India's road ahead

I wouldn't delve too much into the past. We are a new team, our approach has been totally different, especially in one-day cricket, where we have done consistently well for the last one year or so. We beat Sri Lanka, we beat England convincingly, we beat New Zealand convincingly. So I don't find any reason why this particular team should not beat West Indies quite convincingly.
