Mumbai: Middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh and seamer S Sreesanth have been declared fit for selection for the five-match One-Day series against Sri Lanka starting on August 18.
Though the fitness reports of the players are yet to be submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), One of the five selectors who will be selecting the One-Day team for Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy in September, Bhupinder Singh (Sr), confirmed that the southpaw was fit and has been practising under the watchful eyes of his father and former Indian seamer Yograj Singh since Tuesday.
"We are waiting for the Indian team physio to give his report on the players who are in contention for selection. However,I have come to know from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCB) officials and the local media that Yuvraj is fully fit and has started practising with his father in Chandigarh's Dav School grounds," Bhupendra Singh (Sr) told Cricketnext on Wednesday.
The stylish left hander, who was not considered for the Indian Test team following poor form, had a long net practice and batted for more than two hours with his father, who was his first coach during his younger days, giving him constant advice on the back lift and the position of his feet while driving the ball.
After the net practice Yograj told the local media that he was satisfied with the way his son was hitting the ball and had no injury problem right now.
"Yuvraj has come here (to Chandigarh) for a week. I want him to undergo some tough training sessions with me. He wanted to train here under me. He batted very fluently in the nets and his footwork was perfect. I should say he is in fine nick before the One-Day series in Sri Lanka and has no injury worries whatsoever," Yograj told the local media.
Another Indian player who has been sidelined in recent times due to injuries, Sreesanth, has also recovered fully from his shoulder injury, according to kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president T R Balakrishnan.
"I spoke to Sreesanth, who is working out at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and he told me he has recovered fully. Even though the NCA doctor will have to certify him fit before selectors in Mumbai tomorrow, I am confident of his total recovery," Balakrishnan said.
