The moment of triumph finally arrives for India in Perth as the visitors beat the invincible Aussies by 72 runs to snap their record of 17 Test wins. Revered as the most bouncy track in the world, the Aussies have been forced to taste defeat at W.A.C.A for the first time in 10 years. It was India, who put the brakes on Steve Waugh's record streak in 2003 and it's India again who have quashed Ponting's chances to be the skipper with the most consecutive Test wins. Beating Australia also becomes all the more remarkable especially after being 2-0 down in the series and with the on and off field controversies that could have easily taken their focus away from the game. The Australian tail-enders gave some anxious moments and brought the score dramatically close. However, the Indians, barring Tendulkar, who are making their Test debut at this ground returned back victoriously. Playing his first match of the series Irfan Pathan bags the Man of the Match award. Anil Kumble deserved the credit for the mature manner in which he has carried this team.

The 50 runs partnership between the duo raised Australia's hopes. Ishant Sharma, the 19-year old Delhi youngster bowled his heart out and troubled Ricky Ponting in his fiery 9-over spell. The fast bowler was finally rewarded for his splendid efforts, when the Australian skipper nicked one to slips as Dravid took a clean catch. Ponting missed out on his 40th Test fifty by 5 runs. After the openers departed it was time for the Tendulkar and Dravid show. They put on a hundred run partnership for the third wicket. Tendulkar was dismissed for 71 but the Dravid show continued as he closed in on yet another ton. Ganguly looked aggressive right from the first ball he faced. He was dismissed playing a loose shot off Johnson. After Ganguly's dismissal Laxman came in to provide support to Dravid. Dravid was well on course for his 25th Test ton but he aired one to Ponting off Symonds. Laxman departed towards the end of the day giving Australia an upper hand on the proceedings. Virender Sehwag gave India their best start of the series so far maintaining a brisk run-rate in the first session of the first day. With Sehwag opening the batting for India, there was always a possibility of Australian bowlers striking early. The explosive right hander looked in his element striking 6 foundations for his 29. The Perth wicket offers plenty of bounce and Johnson made full use of the favourable conditions to dismiss Sehwag, who was out caught behind. Wasim Jaffer once again looked composed facing the new ball with ease. Jaffer did the hard work of seeing off the new ball but failed to build on as he played a loose shot outside off to Lee for 16. India are down two wickets but they have 74 runs on board. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid - the two experienced batsmen are in the middle and should look to maintain the same run-rate.

After a turbulent last week, the focus finally shifts to cricket as the two teams battle it out at the W.A.C.A in Perth for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar series. Australia have not lost a Test at Perth since 1997 and are likely to opt for a four pace attack to extract all the pace and bounce that the fastest wicket has to offer.
