Second Innings Batting : India Bowling : Sri Lanka
Thanks a lot for following our coverage. We will be back on Sunday for the third ODI.
Mahela Jayawardena says that his team did not put enough runs on the board. "We had to make sure that we did not lose too many wickets early in the innings. But the Indian bowlers bowled in good areas. Dambulla track has a bit of moisture and allows good carry and bounce." We knew we could win by picking quick wickets but Dhoni and Badrinath batted brilliantly."
MS Dhoni "We were under pressure after losing Gambhir and opting to bowl first turned to be a blessing in disguise. We did not want to pressurize anyone so we did not have any team meetings too. We allow our batsmen to plan their innings. Badrinath deserves the credit he played very well handling Murali and Mendis very well."
Man of the Match - Zaheer Khan "I am the strike bowler and my responsibility is to pick wickets. I was only looking to bowl on good areas and leaving the rest to the wicket. All the bowlers did the job and put pressure on their batters."
The low scoring games are never short on drama and the second ODI too has lived up to the reputation. Two quick wickets in the first five overs and two towards the fag end of India's chase did give some anxious moments. A calm and composed partnership of 60 runs between skipper Dhoni and Badrinath ensured that India reached within the touching distance of Sri Lanka's total. With Dhoni's departure, Jayawardena played his last trick by bringing back Mendis into the attack. Obliging his skipper, the mystery bowler removed Harbhajan Singh to send the Indian dressing room in a tizzy. However, Badrinath (27 not out) on his debut showed nerves of steel, staying unbeaten and hitting the winning stroke. The foundation of this victory was laid by the bowlers and the Indian batsmen although shaky at times complimented well to register a victory and level the series 1-1. Yet again India showed that they can bounce back after being beaten in the first game.
