Virender Sehwag was adjudicated the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 201 in the first innings which was followed up by a quick-fire 50 in the second. He became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to carry his bat throughout the innings when he saw his entire side crumble in the first innings while he stood tall achieving his third double century in the process. The fact that he scores runs at a brisk pace only adds to his reputation which seems to be growing with each passing day.
India win by 170 runs to level the series. Virender Sehwag's knock of 201* will go down as one of the finest innings scripted considering the rest of the Indian batting order only piled up 128 in the first innings. The bowlers then played their part. Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma showed that India can pick up wickets in succession and keep the pressure on the opposition. Bhajji picked up 10 wickets in the match, overshadowing Mendis' 10 wickets in only his second Test. Gambhir has proved a worthy opener for India and ends the long-awaited Indian openers jinx, forming a destructive pair with Sehwag at the top. Some superb cricket played overall by India which makes the contest all the more better going into the final Test.
In a match that was always tipped more towards India, the visitors have finally made it 1-1 at Galle. They suffered a humiliating defeat in Colombo but have shown that they cannot be taken lightly. As usual, they lost the first match of the series only to bounce back strongly in the second. They, like Sri Lanka in the first Test, finish off the opposition in four days.
